Eviction against Govt land encroachment demanded

RUKSIN, May 4: Ruksin Area Youth Front (RAYF) and general people of Ruksin have demanded the authority to evict the illegal occupants of Govt land in Ruksin township without delay.
Expressing concern over encroachment of government notified land in Ruksin township, the RAYF gave Ruksin SDO (civil) one month to vacate the Govt notified land. The Forum also sought the intervention of East Siang deputy commissioner to evict illegal structures constructed at encroached land and threatened to launch democratic movement in support of its demand.
The RAYF claimed that despite repeated pleas, the SDO is keeping mum over the issue and thereby playing an irresponsible role. The Ruksin SDO (C) Yemlin Tayeng earlier denied any illegal occupation of government land in the township. But the illegal occupation was ascertained after the matter was taken up with district Land Settlement and Revenue department.

ITANAGAR, May 4: The Delhi University (DU) has decentralized the admission procedure of undergraduate course for SC/ST categories this year. Students seeking admission in the university have to apply in the college where his/her percentage fulfills the college’s cut off list, informed Arunachal Students’ Union Delhi (ASUD).
While giving some admission related informations, ASUD said that admission forms
for LLB and LLM courses under Delhi University would be available from May 7 onwards.

Prohibitory order
ITANAGAR, May 4: Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner has prohibited the collection of sand gravel and boulder from the Reserve Forest Area in Lower Dibang Valley District with immediate effect. Any violation of the order will be viewed seriously and dealt, it said.
The prohibitory order has been issued following a complaint lodged by Natual Resources Preservation Forum that some people were engaged in indiscriminate collection of sand gravel and boulders from the Reserve Forest Area of Sukha nallah and lpipanighat, located near Malek village.
“Such collection of sand gravel and boulders from the Forest Reserve Area not only
violates the relevant Forest Act enforced in the state but also is dangerous from

Addressing the media persons here today, Sherab Tsedor appealed for the solidarity with its campaign for “Free Tibet”. He appealed the world community including UN to raise voice for freedom of Tibet and democracy. Sherab, who himself immolated once protesting against the Human Rights violation in Tibet, informed that 35 Tibetans have self immolated so far since 2009 out of whom 26 succumbed to their injuries and 9 others are still traceless.
Free Tibetan campaigners demanded People’s Republic of China for free and an autonomous Tibet and reinstatement of Dalai Lama as free Tibet spiritual leader.
Lamenting over present situation at Tibet, he alleged that many Tibetans women and girls are being raped and killed in Tibet. “Every human has liberty by birth and their fundamental rights should be equally respected,” he said.
It is worth mentioning here that “Free Tibet’ activist Sherab Tsedor alias Migmar Tenzin arrived here blindfolded with a black strip on his eyes. “Wake up UN” – three word message was inscribed in the strip, which, Tsedor claimed, signifies the United Nation’s shaky stand on Tibet Human Right violation.
Berung Pig Breeding Farm cries for Govt’s attention

PASIGHAT, May 4: Despite being endowed with enormous scopes of agriculture allied activities like animal farming, the “District Pig Breeding Farm” set up at Berung near Pasighat is crying for government’s attention to perform to its fullest potential.
Located at 7 km south of Pasighat town, the piggery farm was established in 1992 with a view to conserve the local pig species as well as to produce quality piglets for supplying among rearers in a very nominal rate. Subsequently, a centrally sponsored project was reportedly introduced in the farm in 2006. But the farm is still running without proper infrastructure and other required facilities. Moreover, inadequate feeding and poor nutritional management is reportedly affecting normal growth of the reared animals.
The only piggery farm running under the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary aims to produce local pig breeds known as “Doom Pig”. It is observed that the Doom pigs that reared by the common villagers since time immemorial fell into endangered list and its conservation is need of hour.

There is a pathetic and unsanitary look in the pig breeding farm. The attendant of the farm informed that locally available foodstuff are being fed to the animals. No boiler shed has been developed in the farm in order to feed boiled or sterilized food to the pigs. The attendant also rued the lack of water supply as a major problem in processing animal feed.
The Senior Veterinary Officer of Pasighat Dr. N Taloh, who is looking after the breeding farm, has pointed towards paucity of fund as cause of the pitiable condition of the farm. He informed that the state government grants about Rs 2 lakh in a year, which is inadequate to maintain the farm and farming activities. The limited fund granted by the government can not meet the cost of procurement of certified food and other nutrients.
On the other hand, the Veterinary Training Institute, set up at Pasighat is also hit hard by power supply problem. A lot of costly machineries supplied to institute are reportedly lying unused as the state government is not funding for smooth functioning of the institute.
Federation demands cancellation of Naying public hearing
ITANAGAR, May 4: Siang Bachao Federation (SBF) demanded the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) to immediately cancel the proposed public hearing for Naying Hydro Power Project to be held at Naying under Tato circle in West Siang district on May 11.
In a letter to the SPCB chairman the Federation said that forceful conduct of public hearing may lead to law and order situation.
The MoU or MoA for the project was signed by the previous government without the taking the local people into the confidence, the Federation said. Moreover, it said, the Land Acquisition Act of 1894 has not been followed properly and the Tribal Forest Right Act for local populace has been totally neglected while signing MoU for the project. Most of the land of Siang valley are under submergence area and green belt restricted zone, the Federation claimed.
“We the people of downstream area likely to be affected by the project will not allow any public hearing proposed by concerned authorities as well as the Hydro Power developer until and unless state Govt and power developer redress the grievances of people,” the Federation said.
It further said that prior inform consent (PIC) seems to have been overlooked in the proposed Naying Hydro Power Project and the administration did not enlighten the majority of the local people about the EIA, EMP, RRP etc. of the Project.The people are not aware of the actual position of the project, it said.

Taking strong exception to the attack on its general secretary, AAPSU said that the incident involving central executive members of the union has brought big shame to the apex students body of the state. It termed the assault on its general secretary as attack on the “institute of AAPSU.”
“At a time when the AAPSU has been questioning the state government on the law and order problem of the state more particularly in the capital complex, the shameful incident has portrayed the union in poor light before the common masses,” AAPSU regretted.
The union further appealed one and all to desist from taking the issue in individual or communal line as there are reports pouring in that some people through various social networking sites and in the form of sms in mobiles are hell bent trying to give it another colour. The union is alive to the situation and is doing whatever is possible to punish the culprit.
All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) strongly condemned the attack on Poyom.
Violence is not at all a solution to any problem. Rather it worsens any situation, ANSU said and urged the youths to desist from taking the law into their own hands. The Union said that any difference could be solved through dialogue in peaceful manner. ANSU appealed to punish the culprits as per law. It also appealed public to discourage wrongdoer even if they belongs his/her family and relatives.
Meanwhile, ANSU urged the State Government to bring out some good mechanism to control law and order problem in state capital.
“Only peace can bring development and prosperity to the state and to bring peace in state capital, punishment of the guilty as per the magnitude of the crime is a must,” ANSU added.
Meanwhile, West Siang District Students’ Union (WSDSU) and Galo Students Union (GSU) expressed serious concern over deteriorating law and order situation in the state capital saying that the attack on Poyom and his wife has simply reflected the total lawlessness in the capital region.
“We are deeply hurt by the incident which clearly shows that common publics are not at all secured in Capital Complex despite the government’s tall claim of ensuring peace in the state,” both WSDSU and GSU said in a memorandum to chief minister today.
“Taking strong note on attack on Poyom, we request your govt. to give exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the crime, who dared to take law in their hands,” the memorandum said. It alleged that increasing rates of crimes are only due to political backup to criminals.
“Criminals are moving freely. They do whatever they want and go unpunished. This is a serious threat to your govt,” it said.
“We believe that under your leadership law shall prevail and guilty would be punished. This is the only way to restore our faith in govt,” it added.

The All Upper Subansiri District Student’s Union (AUSDSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Anti Corruption Activist Association (AAPACAA) have also vehemently condemned the attack on Poyom and demanded exemplary punishment for culprits as per law.
While appealing to the civil society not to be involved in such matter to protect the culprits, AUSDSU urged the student community of the state to raise voice against the barbaric act which deserves condemnation from all quarters.
AAPACAA blamed the failure of police in arresting and punishing the offenders of law for the increasing law and order problem in the state capital. It demanded the state govt as well as police department to solve various cases which are yet to be solved.
AAPACAA appealed to all citizens to support the AAPSU GS to get justice and pray for his early recovery.
Poyom has been referred to Guwahati for further treatment, it informed.
The Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) also vehemently condemned the attack on Poyom and demanded the authority to book the culprit(s) under appropriate section of the law.
Taloh meets union minister, stresses on awareness camp on handlooms and textiles
ITANAGAR, May 4: Arunachal Pradesh Industries and Textiles Minister Tapang Taloh today called on Union Minister of State for Textiles Panabata Laxmi and discussed various problems related to handloom and textiles development in the state. The meeting was also attended by development commissioners R.N Chobuy, handloom and S S Gupta, Handicrafts.
During the discussion, Taloh highlighted the initiatives taken for development of handloom and handicraft during his five month tenure. The minister especially emphasized on enhancement of fund for the Group Approach Scheme and Cluster Development Schemes under the Integrated Handloom Development Schemes as it is the most popular schemes in Arunachal Pradesh.
Discussions were also held on various schemes such as Institutional Credit, Mill Gate Price Scheme, Handloom Weavers Comprehensive Welfare Scheme and Financial Package, Design and Technology, Babasaheb Arnbedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojna, Marketing support and services and Handicrafts Artisans Comprehensive Welfare schemes etc. The Minister requested the development commissioners of both handloom and handicrafts to set up awareness camps about various schemes. Both the development commissioners reportedly agreed in principle to conduct awareness camp at appropriate time in the state.

Tuki fulfills Khandu’s dream: Phurpa

KHONSA, May 4: The 8th Self Help Group (SHG) solidarity day under ANMA (Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh) Integral Development Agency (AIDA) was held in Government Hr. Sec. School, Khonsa, under the theme “Mentored and empowered; we are soaring to the new height”.
John pfokho the project manager of PEARL (Promotion of East Arunachal for Rural Livelihood) read out the AIDA work and its history in East Arunachal. There was a sharing from community based trainers (CBTs), community health workers (CHWs) and self help groups’ member. They shared the benefits, assistance getting from AIDA.
Fr. Bimal Lakra, the executive director of AIDA intimated about the challenges staffs are facing, and the activities carried out by the staffs in the villages. He highlighted about the future planned of PEARL project in East Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier, inaugurating exhibition cum sale stalls, Tirap deputy commissioner W.Lowang spoke about the importance of marketing and the needs to have good market linkages, uses of natural resources, and shared upon economic development concept. He added that oranges and other fruits can be processed through which they could earn a lot of profits.

Global land and poorer countries
A latest report by Friends of the Earth, an international watchdog says that anywhere from 80 to 227 million hectares of rural, often agrarian land, typically in poorer countries have been taken over by private and corporate interests in recent years. Programmes and policies pushed by the World Bank, the organisation suggests, have been both directly and indirectly responsible for this trend, with examples reportedly coming from more than 60 countries.
Some of these are countries which struggle to feed their own populations but which have enough fertile land to attract foreign investors, the report states. Such figures are on the rise, driven by increased human demand for vegetable oils and the evolving global market for biofuels.

Dear Editor,
The nuisance experienced during the recruitment of the various posts conducted in the recent months in RGU Campus which is still being afresh in mind that another haphazard story cropped up in the campus in the interview for teachers commenced from the last week of April and is to continue till May last.
What is surprising is that against one sanctioned post, 10 candidates, according to their merit, are being called for interview in each discipline for the post of assistant professor.
Fine, no problem in it but the question here arises is 20 candidates have been called for the post of Assistant Professor in the department of Zoology, whereas it was only 10 candidates for other departments. This was just to accommodate one of the candidates for the Zoology Department who happens to be a family member of an Assistant Professor who is from the Department of Botany. Who is also the 19th candidate in the merit list (Zoology).
My humble submission to V.C. Sir is that please see to it that there is fairness in selection of candidates and give the same opportunity to candidates for all the departments and call for 20 candidates per post instead of 10 candidates.
In today’s modern world in such competitive age, every candidate is aspiring and deserving, such injustice in the system can provoke innocent and diligent minds.
I appeal to you that these forms of corruption and nepotism have to be axed as soon as possible. We all look forward to a fair and competent selection process under your benevolent guidance.
Please keep the university above all these petty politics, you will have to assert yourself and stand for the right, let there be equality. No individual is above the rest however mighty or powerful he/she might be.

What a pleasant surprise!
Dear Editor,
In those days the Upper Subansiri district Headquarter Daporijo was described as backward area, but the scenario of Daporijo has changed in recent days with improvement of drainage system and better road communication.
Since my childhood, I had been observing the pathetic condition of the roads, particularly, drainage system along the road due to improper construction or lack of proper maintenance.
Many citizens of Daporijo had appealed to the authorities concerned to improve drainage system and condition of township. Finally, they got the positive response during recent visit of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to Daporijo and some other areas.
After his visit, a new chapter of development begins as the renovation of pathetic road condition and maintenance of drainage system has been undertaken.
Credit goes to CM Nabam Tuki. I personally appreciate Tuki for his new initiative in development front.
